You, the Top Ten and the wonderful DUzies were the reasons that I finally quit lurking and signed on at DU. Now you're all gone. Sniff. You and my DFA friends were literally my only threads to sanity from when I found you all sometime in 2003 until 2008. Since November 2008, of course, things political have taken a turn for the better, as any fact-based person will agree, although we still have a long way to go and much ground to make up.
Like you, I do get tired of Obama-bashing for the sake of it or the broad brush descriptions of ALL Dems as sell-outs or no better than Repubs, when all one needs to do is to consult the facts and the record to see that is NOT the case. Constructive criticism is one thing; constant negatives are another. I've been around long enough (67 years!) to know that no human being is perfect and our politicians are certainly no less fallible than we are. If anything, they might be more fallible, especially when power goes to their heads. But there are leaders, and Barack Obama is one of them, who sincerely try - even though we may not always agree with the methods or the results - to make life a little better for us all. I believe that and that is why I will remain here on DU, if only to make an occasional comment to show that I DO support President Obama, although I may not always agree with him.
That said, it may be time for the BOG to disappear, at least as such. Perhaps a re-elect the President group could be created in its stead at the proper time. I'm sure that perennial bashers, whether they be disappointed Dems (yes, I understand; I just don't agree and I have too often seen how such tactics drive us apart and make things work for the Other Side, viz. 1980 and 2000 - two all-important election years) or genuine trolls will show up there as well and will keep on showing up just as they are doing now. But I'm here for the duration.
And now, because I haven't been Raptured yet - not that I expected to be - and because I haven't seen piles of clothing or abandoned vehicles yet on this May 21st, I'll actually contribute to the DU cause! Of course, it's still early and things could still change. On the positive side, if they do, an election in 2012 will be the least of our worries.
