The OP makes a good point.

I don't think that Obama will do this, though. I think that his purpose has never been to meet Republicans half-way. That was always window dressing. Obama's purpose is to give the corporations what they demand in return for helping him get elected in 2008. Right now the corporations are waiting to see who the Republicans nominate. If it's somebody who will give them more than Obama can give them, then they'll abandon him. Obama's rhetoric will probably take a left turn but it won't make a difference. Corporations elect presidents now.
