37. "Hater got to hate ... ... polls ... will be pleasing"
Edited on Thu Jun-23-11 12:51 PM by Martin Eden
I don't hate President Obama, but I had the same thought that his decision was a typical compromise that will neither "win" this war nor stop flushing our blood and treasure down the drain in Afghanistan.

Sorta like his "surge" to begin with ... he didn't give the military everything they said was necessary to get the job done, but he still increased our investment in that mission. I think the result thus far has been predictable -- some progress made, but no real defeat of the Taliban and no real prospect of a long term stable central government after we leave (and no real guarantee we will ever leave).

If waging this war was vital to our national interests, the president should have made that case sufficiently to get the American people to get behind the effort so we could get the job done and then get out.

If Afghanistan truly is the Graveyard of Empires and ultimately we are just wasting time money and lives there, he should have exerted his leadership and made that case to the American people and put an end to all this tragic waste.

I don't give a flying metaphor if his speech will produce pleasing polll results in the short term. I want the POTUS to make the tough decisions that are best for our country.
