Yes, his remark was mildly offensive.

Yes, I believe he's doing the tactically correct thing by responding to the outrage over his remark by extending his middle finger.

Carville, more than anyone, knows how the media feeding frenzy works, and knows that if he backpedals and apologizes, the media and the right wing will feast upon his corpse.

So he might as well show that he's got a pair and pick a fight.
