that the right is using to bash teachers and police as being paid too much and that their wages and benefits should be cut because taxpayers shouldn't have to pay them so much.

Our local paper's comment section is loaded with Tea Baggers constantly bashing public workers, especially teachers and police, because they supposedly get paid more than anyone in the world and get completely free benefits. It's a divide and conquer campaign. It's basically a redux of the welfare queen wearing fur coats and driving Cadillacs.
