86. Zero.

However, we did lose a lot of those seats because of Clinton's policies and politics.

The Assault Weapons Ban was our biggest loser in the short run. But in the longer run, Clinton's political success -- in a two presidential elections where the teabaggers were split between the Republican and Reform parties -- caused Democrats to emulate his campaign tactic which largely consisted of bad-mouthing his fellow Democrats.

The district where I grew up is a good example. We were pretty reliably Democratic even through the Reagan era. Not as progressive as some districts, but there was no confusing the Democrats with the Republicans, especially on the economic front. Then the local Democrats started copying Clinton's ploy decrying those damn liberals in Washington. And it worked after a fashion. They succeeded in convincing everyone that Democrats are bad, so they now mostly elect Republicans.

And they completely fail to see the correlation. They will tell you that they changed because the district changed. But I saw it happening at the time. If EVERYBODY argues in favor of Rightwing policies, then the voters are obviously going to favor Rightwing policies. They have never heard anybody make an argument against those policies.
