Guatemala remands suspects accused of murdering lawyer
15:11, June 30, 2010

Guatemalan authorities have remanded two suspects on charges of killing a lawyer that caused a political upheaval in the nation in 2009, according to news reaching in Mexico on Tuesday.

Estuardo and Francisco Valdez Paiz, who were accused of paying nine hitmen to kill Rodrigo Rosenberg, turned themselves in on Monday. The two brothers are currently held in a military jail in the Matamoros Barracks in Guatemala City.

They will remain in jail until preliminary hearings on the case begin next week.

Rosenberg was killed in May last year, just three days after he claimed that he would soon be killed by Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom.
