A main component of humor, irony, satire, etc., is a VAST DISPARITY between compared items---here, between the Poppy of Arabia moment and the troops' just sitting there. Gosh, it couldn't be more embarrassing than if Poppy had donned the white robes Peter O'TOOLE used, or flapped himself around MORE. (Absolutely NO disparagement of O'TOOLE intended or implied.)
