3. Well it all depends on how close the race is.
Voting for Obama and he ends up losing by 15+ points is kinda stupid (if you didn't want to vote for him instead).

In a situation like that if enough people voted 3rd party it could send a message.

I agree in the limited case of a very close election not voting for Obama is a vote for Republicans.
