6. Let the tax cuts expire and take the lead on fiscal responsibility
IF the Democratic leadership only had a brain and guts we would have been holding all the cards. Obama would have slapped down Wall Street and the mortgage industry, and we Americans would have felt some satisfaction when Goldman Sachs and their employees and others faced a special punitive surtax (as in Europe) because of their billions in ill gotten gains. But no - Democratic leadership just curtsied to the banksters. Watch CNBC and you can actually see them every day.

The Republicans put the expiration on the tax cuts in place when they passed the bills in 2001 and 2003 because they knew they were reckless.

So let them expire now and then tell the world that the Democrats are the Party of fiscal responsibility. Take the lead for a change instead doing nothing. It is time we start paying down the debt and for wars that our generations have created and the rich need to take the lead.

If they do not expire they will become permanent under the Republicans in 2012 (and they will win in 2012) and they will use that to end everything that benefits most Americans.

The Ds in leadership need to take a stand or there will be nothing to differentiate the Party from the irresponsible greed and war mongers that call themselves Republicans. We needed a Howard Dean or someone with some opposition Party feistiness and instead got we got an embedded establishment collaborator.
