71. There was a conservation ethic after the great depression.
America once had a culture of using energy and resources efficiently, much of it left over from the farm tradition. That went out the window to several decades of conspicuous over-consumption and it was boomers who have lead the way. From dismantling public transportation to expanding use of coal, future generations will pay the price for the decisions of the boomer generation. And while polls show that young people want action on climate change, it's boomer voters, reporters and politicians who stand in the way telling us what other issues we should be more concerned about.
