4. There is no reason to vote if
there isn't a candidate that will serve to advance and protect one's needs and interests. The only difference between the candidate's in such circumstances is one of degree. And some folks find it repugnant to vote for such a sorry candidate.

Just my opinion but I suspect that if Obama is losing his base then it is probably because they think he isn't advancing or protecting their interests. That could be a problem of perception. It could also be the reality - and if it is then he should not expect them to vote for him to retain his position.
