104. WOW. Last I checked this is not the 19th century...
First of all, maybe they did and maybe they didn't. I don't know if we know that for sure. If true, you'll have to show me...

Second of all, IF they did, I believe it slowed the march toward equality.

Third of all, this ain't the 19th century. Though it sure sounds like some would like to reduce my vote to 3/5 of a person.

This is the 21st century, goddammit. And I would think that in this day and age, at a minimum DEMOCRATS would stand up for equality for everyone. How can we, looking back on all our mistakes as a nation, all the progress that was made during the civil rights movement, how can we be SO IGNORANT to all of that to allow a similar injustice to continue with a different demographic.

How can anyone with any decency think that's ok?
Why is discrimination of any form acceptable to you?
Why are civil rights for ANYONE negotiable?
Why SHOULDN'T equality be the most important thing?

Hypothetical scenario... If psychos took control of the government today and ordered that black people were not afforded all the same rights as whites, that segregation was in effect again, that blacks and whites were not allowed to marry... would ANY other issue matter until we got that fixed?? Would you tolerate that kind of treatment of fellow Americans? I'm betting no. I'm HOPING no. (If it's not "no", then you have problems way beyond what I care to deal with.)

So the heart of the matter is that you think gays are not your equal. It's acceptable to allow discrimination against them to continue because they are "other", "different"... LESSER. And they are foolish to demand equality overnight. Not when we have way more important things like war and poverty to deal with. We've gotta be pragmatic about this! We need to prioritize! We should fix ALL those thing first before we deal with their silly little queer issues. We can't be expected to multitask! So what if it takes another 10, 20, 100 years to get there?! They need to be patient. If a few of their lives are completely ruined because of these policies, well, that's a shame, but they can't possibly demand we make THEM a priority!

Right?
