I question the 70 million figure.

The two largest chunks of that figure were Chinese and Russians.

Those people would have been killed whether the US was in the war or not.

The country that lost the largest percentage of its population was Poland, and the US had no control over that either.

So, my contention is that close to 70 million people would have been killed whether the US entered WWII or not. In fact maybe more would have if the US didn't enter the war as Japan might still be occupting China, and the war in Russia would have at minimum lasted an extra year or two without US involvement in WWII.
