Vine Deloria Jr. published "We Talk, You Listen (New Tribes, New Turf)." Almost 40 years later, I think it remains one of the most important books available to DUers. In it, he describes the people of the United States as approaching a cross-roads: one path lead directly to a corporate feudalism, the other to a modern form of confederate tribalism.
It is accurate to say that tribalism has both positive and negative potentials. But the only positive potentials for the new feudal state are for the Dick Cheneys. For the average citizen, the feudal state's only comfort is the false security of social novocaines, For the un-average citizen, it offers little but pain and suffering.
