since the Reagan administration.
the suppression of wages to give money to the wealthy, the validation of shareholder profits, who do NOTHING to create wealth or product, over rewarding the American worker for his or her labors is the problem.
The last thirty years of attacks on the idea of an American common wealth, a community space, on the very idea of human rights as the basis for health care, housing, education - and the basis for a strong democracy - these are the problems that must be addressed.
For profit and private is not the the way to create a healthy society. Unfortunately, this cult-think of the "free market" is the economic equivalent of creationism - even when faced with overwhelming evidence that such an idea is unsupportable by reality, those who benefit by deluding others continue to propagate this lie.
We see this, still, with the attempts to break up the teachers union now. We saw this with NAFTA. We saw this with Bush's tax cuts. We saw this with Paulsen and Geithner's attitudes toward the bank fraudsters.
If our politicians don't get a clue sooner rather than later, I hope that, when the riots start, the rioters head to Wall Street rather than main street.
