5. When I was a kid growing up in the late 50's early 60's,
we spent almost all of our time outside.

I live in a neighborhood with lots of kids. I rarely see kids playing outside. The activity level is much lower today.

The only diet soda I knew of was Tab. It tasted terrible. But I had soda only once a week. We drank water or tea, and most of that was water. All my neighbors bring home soda, lots of it.

I'm not saying that a drastic drop in activity levels and lots of sugared water is the only problem, but it is part of it.
