For a time when I was unemployed, people were saying I should just get a job in fast food to get by.

I have a doctorate. Can you imagine how well that would go over? There is no way I would even be considered for most unskilled/semi-skilled jobs. No manager in his right mind would interview me, because they would be certain I would leave the first chance I got, and end up wasting their time. Plus, imagine the effect on morale with the other employees.

Sorry, the world just doesn't work that way.
