44. Military involvement
Our area has an air base, and the reservists have just gotten back from the gulf where they were applying dispersants right after the spill. Never heard that this was being done at night and these were not helicopters, but then again, I just recently heard that BP is blocking access to the press to oiled wildlife. Makes sense they would want to have oil slicks disappear---magically.

Also, why is the press so obsessed with comparing this spill the the Exxon Valdez when there is another spill much more similar (although much much scarier). Do a search for Ixtoc I and you will get info on the worst accidental oil spill to date. Happened in the gulf, they were deepsea drilling, the BOP failed, they tried several things (that we have just seen tried) until they got the two wells drilled to relieve it. And it only took short of a year. And oh yeah, it was a Sedco rig, this was a Transocean rig---do another search of Transocean Sedco. Why does no one hear about this incident, or are they afraid to scare us any more than we already are? And scarier still is that this happened in 1979, and they have no better ways of dealing with it in 2010. Frightening.
