43. The government is not running GM
First, in order to be called "nationalized" it would need to be under direct control of the government. It isn't.

Second, the board members are private enterprise capitalists, not government appointees. They are not board members to make money for the government or make GM operate in the best interest of citizens. They're there to make more the company more competitive so we don't lose a major industry.

Third, the only reason the government has any stock interest in GM or the banks is because people screamed that they wanted it. Everybody said we should get some return if we were going to bail these big companies out. So it was decided to take stock. Now, those same people scream "socialism". Don't help them out.

Fourth and finally, GM agreed to this deal. It was not an expropriation for the benefit of the masses.

Nothing in the GM deal comes remotely close to nationalization. We are stupid to give teabaggers the talking point.
