I think the MSM is only one of the tools the Right has been using to turn this country into sheep. The real problem here is that the "vast rightwing conspiracy" really exists, and it has been framing (Lakoff) issues for years. They have studied how American advertising sells - or discourages sales, and used those methods to mind-fuck the population. The Left has failed miserably to respond, probably because there is a lot more money in the Rightwing/corporatist coffers, but also because the Left isn't nearly rabid enough. We were living our lives and trying to make things better, while the Right was laying plans for the far-off future. That future is now.
