I've managed to cope quite nicely for the last 18 years without a charge card of any description, saw the "keep em in debt for life" scam taking shape when they started those ridiculously low monthly payments coupled with all the junk fees. I established my credit in this town by buying used cars and paying them off early and was able to get a home mortgage on that basis, alone.

You can live perfectly well without credit cards, using ATM cards on a separate account for online purchases.

While the convenience of plastic loans in your wallet can't be beat, the bills always come due. It's always better to save up for what you want. Often by the time you've saved enough, it's no longer that important to you and you're ahead of the game.
