70. Then the 30% killed my dad
He had a model's figure at age 77, played tennis almost every day, didn't smoke only an occasional glass of wine
for alcohol. But he had cancer in his family. One fine day, he looked a little yellow in the face. A visit to the
doctor said maybe bad news (January 2000). Next week, the confirmation: pancreatic cancer. Even so, he lasted 11
months. My only consolation was he never lived to hear the Supreme Court decision that put Bush into office. He died
convinced that Gore would eventually be inaugurated.

But his lifestyle was one of the healthiest I ever knew. He had a great life until he was 77. He never lived to see 79.
Of my grandparents, only 2 lived to be 70, only one past 80. Neither of my parents saw 80. If you're a gambler, you
shouldn't like my odds, even though I have every intention of trying to beat them.
