This story makes a lot more sense if you consider what women in Saudi Arabia or Iran are taught to believe. For a woman in Saudi Arabia, her body is already controlled by men - who tell her when she can leave the house, what she can wear, whom she can marry. Women are forced to obey patriarchical instructions about what she should do - the concept of independence or self-reliance is not taught to women at all. So, for someone trained from an early age to obey men w/o question, it's not so suprising she would "obey" this con-man.
