In the 1940s, real rank-and file Nazis and fascists, who had been indoctrinated with the hateful messages of one-party states, often did change when exposed to other views. But British and American and modern Europaean far-right-wingers have for the most part *chosen* to follow such ideologies. Yes, there is plenty of extremist media to inspire them; but there are also alternatives. So the *majority* of such people probably are haters and bigots as a fundamental attribute.

In any case, I see no problem with *trying* to convince such people, except that one will probably fail and waste one's time. I do, however, see a problem with trying to form coalitions with them, on the basis that they may share a few of the same enemies; and giving respectability to their dangerous and disgusting viewpoints.
