Yes, in this case it is you. You were reacting badly to the stress of the kids,
and your subordinate was just trying to get you to lighten up. And, in your own words, you snapped.

Bosses who snap at their employees are taking advantage of their higher position, because the employee can't snap back. It's a lopsided relationship, and it isn't fair to treat her this way.
