13. She's A "Great White Hope"
As she corodes the party so will be those solid core backers. They're sure to be isolated...especially by other potential candidates. I'm already starting to see movement in that direction from Hucklenutz who is truly the one to watch. He's got the smarts Mooselini doesn't and he's been quietly positioning himself to do well in the early 2012 primaries. She's a good distraction for him right now as he's working under the radar...doing the rubber chicken circuit and maintaining his campaign organization. The more off the hook Palin and others get, the more acceptable and rational Hucklenutz gets.

There's a fun factor to watching Palinpalooza...she's as much a national punchline as any serious figure. Colbert nailed it when he said she's nothing but a walking madlib of talking points...a superficial act that has always been self-serving. The difference is that her world has expanded from Alaska to grifting on a national stage. Her real problem is the more stunts she pulls, the more of a joke she becomes which results in more stunts...eventually the novelty wears off.

Frank Rich makes the more important point of watching those who are smart enough to exploit the emotional lightnight that Bible Spice generates but to manipulate it for their own purposes. We get too fascinated with Palin at our own peril...
