They were attempting to shape the bill, prevent single payer, which you claim to support oddly, and retain mandates and a lack of negotiation on drug prices. They removed most of the cost controls. A major entity in a serious political battle will have more than one scenario working, one might be 'if only we can prevent any changes, that would be best' but the second 'shape any changes to our benefit' is what they are ready to do as well. Thinking that such a lucrative industry has such a simplistic mindset is to say the least, amusing from my point of view.
Have you? Lived by negotiation? I think not.
