Not all racists are actually intellectually stupid. There are racists in the south who know the history of race relations in the US pretty well, including such things as miscegenation laws. In fact, I think more Klansmen are aware of the concept of miscegenation than regular Americans.
As I keep saying, like a broken record: the modern GOP are the Wallace people. That's pretty much all they have left.
