You can get them pre-fab and in do-it-yourself kit form, made from wood or other materials. Here's one example: http://www.yurtworks.com /

You can get them as small as 290 square feet and the kits don't cost that much. And they are also modular in that you can add to them over time. There's something about a round house with a sky-light in the middle that is very cool in my opinion. And I think it also makes the small interior somehow seem larger. But they probably look best in a remote forested area, and you probably wouldn't be allowed to build one anywhere near a populated suburban area.
