times driving through there (thousands) we NEVER saw a human being. we watched as they tore down a treasure of a mill, when they sold out. now you do see some people, but the gas station is a gift shop now. did you ever go to the shell museum on the upper floors of the socalled general store. well, if you aren't wealthy forget that area. when i moved there you could still buy a house uptown for 30k. my first one cost more than that but it was a turreted vic on two lots. the world is upside down now. only the rich or willing to go over their heads in debt can live in waterfront areas that have amenities. there's always the slabs, or salton sea....
