I don't know that it will help her, but let her know than many people do care her situation and while we don't have a good way to help her we will send her positive thoughts.
It is just so wrong that this can happen to people and to someone who has worked all their life to be faced with it is somehow worse (having been part of an age-related lay off a few years ago I'm really sensitive to those).
