They define themselves in opposition to an enemy of some kind. If one doesn't exist, it must be created.

For Reagan, it was the "Evil Empire."

For Bush I, it was Saddam, but the war didn't last long enough, and he faded after that because he couldn't dredge up another.

For Bush II, it was Osama at first, but after Afghanistan collapsed like the house of cards it was and bin Laden "escaped" another was needed. Presto! "Saddam Hussein is sponsoring terrorism, has nuclear weapons, gassed his own people yada, yada, yada." On and on and on.

If you really want to understand a RWer, look at what he hates.
