The clubs used are specifically designed for the task and when used properly will dispatch the animal immediately with no suffering. A spear is much more difficult to use because the heart is a smaller, invisible target and even if the heart is pierced, the animal may suffer for several minutes before it dies. Even the humane society has said the hakapik should not be banned.
