and you certainly don't make a good argument against Forster's elegant essay, in which he explains what personal relationships are and what tolerance is. But then you haven't read it, I assume.
Tolerance is forebearance when it comes to dealing with people we aren't fond of and don't love. Although it's true that tolerance can be and generally is a part of love- particularly what we call unconditional love- tolerance exists outside that sphere when it comes to dealing with people we do no and cannot love. Forster argues that that's the most important place to apply it, and that it's tolerance which allows us to put up with differences.
