so they would be fools to secede and lose their federal welfare. Imagine Mississippi without all the money California sends their way. They would be third world for sure. Texas is the only jumbo state that just about breaks even on federal money (California and New York pay in much more than they receive)---and that is not counting all the defense spending and the way that federal policy has artificially propped up the price of oil for them. Texas would lose money if they were not a state.

If there was a tea party like the ones the Founders did, it would be DC (which pays a lot of taxes) demanding the 2 senate seats that pauper Wyoming gets. And California and New York would both get an extra Senator and more Representatives to reflect the fact that they support the rest of the country.
