It can backfire. Not all progressives get everything right every time. My advice would be to applaud these people for coming out in the spirit of democracy and then to suggest that they get educated about who is actually oppressing them. Most will not listen but a few will and those few are the critical ones who will help us really put an end to this irrational fear.
