Are there *really* flame wars going on after that rescue?

I've been gone all weekend, so I'm late to the party, but Jesus.

Is it me, or has this place kinda been swarming with shitheads lately? I'm not directing that at anyone specifically, because I've been the shithead some of the time, but again, Jesus.

A guy gets taken hostage by fuckin'-fa-chrissakes pirates. It escalates into a larger situation. The president gave authorization for the use of force if it was deemed the hostage's life was being threatened. The pirates - who, by the way, forefitted their lives when they took up fuckin'-fa-chrissakes piracy for a living and then took a person hostage at gunpoint, sorry, you're volunteering for a bullet from somebody when you do that - swung an automatic weapon at the hostage, and they got their lights turned out by some Navy SEALS firing from the fantail of an American warship.

No non-combatants or civilians were killed. Or wounded. Or scratched. Or lightly bruised. Or bumped into. Not. One.

The president didn't carpet-bomb Somalia, nor did he invade a nation that had nothing to do with the situation, nor did he bluster, nor did he fail to act. Three fuckin'-fa-chrissakes pirates died how they lived: in violence. Their hostage is going home, and on Easter Sunday to boot. Not bad for his family and friends.

As for the hype, of course this was hyped. Gunplay between pirates and Navy SEALS on the high seas? The rescue of a hostage? No collateral damage? This is going to be a God damned made-for-TV-movie before the sun comes up. They'll call it "Wham And Splatter," and you know what? I'm watching it.

How is this not a no-brainer? Seriously.
