204. it is surprisingly good
Much better than we feared. The corporate food giants and the Republicans will fight this tooth and nail. One thing it threatens is their massive ersatz "organic" trade - slipping un-inspected produce into the country from Mexico and China, running it through a holding company, then packaging it with homespun and quaint names like "Aunt Sue's Homegrown Beans" that disguise the origin of the produce and the corporate ownership of the brand and then getting gullible and naive consumers to pay a premium for it.

This is a good first step in the battle to restore what the Republicans wrecked - regulatory oversight and inspection of our food, research and testing.

Will the corporations still cheat and still bribe and corrupt our public officials? Yes, just as they do everywhere else. But that is a political fight, and a political fight that too few here are interested in.

But regulation is the direction we want to go, not free market consumer choice privatized libertarianism, whether or not that libertarianism has an organic label on it or not.

This is such a vital issue of public health. As it is we are teetering on the brink of seeing serious catastrophes.
