| Founder of Religious Right Blasts GOP |
|
Just saw a clip of it on CNN. This is EXACTLY the way the GOP was back in the 50's until the lunatics took over. The guy was totally right on.
His name is Shiffer (don't really recognize his name). He talked about his best friend being Buckley (indeed, major conservative leader). He pointed out how they demanded separation of church and state (correct--the Republicans were 80,000 times more adament about the separation of the two than Dems). He was so angry about how these people have demonized others (which the Republicans did not do and the early Religious Right movement did not do---they preached their message but it wasn't based on hating others). And, he was livid about the fact that they did not push for "illegal" (his words) religious wars like the push for Iraq. (In fact, a lot of GOP weren't keen on war because it meant the spending of money. And the early Religious Right wasn't a zealous government war movement but a religious revival).
It just reminded me of how far things fell when the lunatics took over the Republican Party around the time of Reagan. That's why some old time Congressmen left---they couldn't stand the hatred. Apparently, according to the news item, the GOP has not come up with any statment as of this hour.
