Ahh, gone are the days of manual control... alas. Two-fer False deeming? I tremble in the face of your overweening powers of rhetoric. Funny thing though, on that differential equations midterm I had in college, the one that asked for a proof of something I didn't understand in the least... when I answered "self-evident", as my textbook had done some many times in the past... well- I got no credit. From your post #24:
oh so "woo-woo" is the new "faggot" bitter groups on the "left" always looking for someone lower in the pecking order. Now that it's no longer tolerated with the "left" to attack gays and lesbians, it's on to attacking all things "woo-woo."
Whatever the hell "woo-woo" is.
Hmm, I don't know what the Woo POV term for this logical evolution of thought is, but from my Pseudo-Hindu POV of the day, that sounds like a histrionic attempt to create a false juxtaposition of context/similarity-of-meaning. A critique of the Woo, apparently a left over one from another thread, is in no way a means of relating it to "faggot". The following supernatural leap of logic... a leap of which even Hanuman himself, blessed be his monkey name, would be proud... is the notion that bitter groups of the left looking for targets somehow follows the logically fallacious (I love that word, looks so phallic on the page...) comparison preceding it. A. Skeptics are NOT necessarily of the "left". I point to Climate Change Skeptics as supporting evidence. B. I'm not sure that the "left", even the skeptics among them, really believe in a pecking order. My Hinduism-of-the-day aside (caste system... pshah. I like to order my religion a la carte, thank you very much. I learned that health tip from a Jenny Craig commercial.)... Of course, we might run into a semantic argument here. Perhaps "left" doesn't mean the same thing from the Woo POV as it does from pseudo-Hindu-stan... but from here, if you believe in a "pecking order", you're not on the left. Those points made, the Hanuman-esque leap you made from criticism to Woo is the new victim for all the gay bashers who are, apparently, too politically correct to continue to bash on gays (Another point of Woo logic that mystifies me... proof of the supernatural I suppose...) led me to make the point I made: "your every response to criticism leading to your insistence that you are somehow being "persecuted" ". ( love the double quote, though I suppose it's improper... nonetheless, I champion its use hereafter by all, various and sundry !!). That's one Fallacy Deeming answered... and, dismissed. Now, onto the second. "is in and of itself a setting yourself up as "a judge of Truth and Knowledge"?" " (See, another double quote. Brilliant !!) Well, that "False Assumption" is easy to answer. Any judgment you make, Omega, is: a setting yourself up as "a judge of Truth and Knowledge". That's... drum roll please, what the Einstein quote meant. To argue this point is to argue the meaning of left... in the sense of whether or not my hand that is not on the right side of my body is really on the left side. It is. That's what left means. The only way to argue is to change to another language: izquierda... ok, that's a valid counter-argument. So... Double Fallacy Deeming back at you.
If you want to be intellectually honest, you will now try to create an argument about the underlying connotations I'm creating about the judgments you are making, and my use of Einstein quotes to apply your own judgments against you being a somehow demeaning act. Of course, to do so you will have to successfully convince... well, yourself at least, that you are more capable of judging the connotative valuation implied than I am. At which point, I assure you, I will remind you that all such judgments are subjective... you know, relative, like Einstein said.
As to the final point of False Deeming. I contend that your response above, trying to relate criticism of a point to gay bashing, is, in fact, not the same as having an open mind with respect to the skeptics point of view. In point of fact, to quote from the Princess Bride "I do no' thin' that wor' mean wha' you thin' i' means... ". I get the impression, from here in neo_Hindu-stan, that you think that an open mind means that people embrace your ideas... rather than meaning simply that they consider them. From here in neo-Hindu-stan, an open mind just means that I'll examine an idea, kick its tires, and then decide for myself what I think of it. Not that I will "respect and love and give flowers every Valentine's Day" to said idea.
For instance: I like the idea of UFOs. I am open minded and awaiting new evidences and theories so that I can kick their tires. This Does Not Mean that I am interested in setting up a camera in my bedroom to catch evidence of my eventual abduction.
Hmm, I believe my Counter Deeming has been successful. Cyber Refs? Reversal? 3 points?
