Soldiers who didn't own slaves were absolutely convinced that it was worth fighting for. So once again, the fact that most soldiers didn't own slaves proves nothing. And yes, it's funny to laugh about polling just as it's funny for you to pretend to know why most soldiers fought. No one does. There's no more than anecdotal evidence that indicates even soldiers who didn't own slaves believed the war to be about slavery.
