The Sri Lankan army has captured what it says is the main operations centre of Tamil Tiger rebels in the north.
Army spokesman Brig Udaya Nanayakkara said soldiers had found detailed maps of the army's deployments and rebel positions in an empty building.
There has been no comment from the Tamil Tigers, who have suffered a series of reverses in recent months.
Meanwhile the UN has criticised the Tigers for not allowing safe passage to its workers in areas they control.
