Franken has an appreciation for the unwritten rules of the senate and that he has a high appreciation for standards and things like that? That's the sort of character I see in Al Franken. Yes, he is opinionated, well known and can be a fire thrower, but I also see him as a sincere, compassionate and polite person.
Heck, his one debate with Bill O'Lielly showed exactly what a gracious man he is - that is until he is poked too many times without justification.
