           - Well, your niece, HRC and CKS wouldn't get in a battle of wits with an unarmed woman. nt  MookieWilson   Dec-05-08 06:35 PM   #65
           - That is quite true. LOL  Raineyb   Dec-05-08 06:54 PM   #75

  - The person with the longest resume is not always the best person for the job.  Lex   Dec-05-08 04:58 PM   #20
  - Great.  Bornaginhooligan   Dec-05-08 04:59 PM   #22
  - thank you for understanding my original question.  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 05:19 PM   #44
  - I didn't say she would be better or worse, just that a long resume  Lex   Dec-05-08 05:19 PM   #45
     - My premise is not based on counting years alone, but their records. nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 05:21 PM   #49
        - A long resume would be including their "records." nt  Lex   Dec-05-08 05:25 PM   #53
           - Caroline has a record/resume/whatever you want to call it also  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 05:25 PM   #54
  - So the folks I listed would not make good Senators? nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 05:00 PM   #23
     - Your premise that "they've done it longer so they would be better" is faulty.  Lex   Dec-05-08 05:18 PM   #42
        - it's not just about the years - read the links and answer it based on other criteria then. nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 05:20 PM   #46
           - You misunderstand.  Lex   Dec-05-08 05:24 PM   #52
  - Good genes. nt  Romulox   Dec-05-08 04:59 PM   #21
  - How was sonny bono's wife qualified, how was arnold qualified, that doesn't seem to be important.  madmom   Dec-05-08 05:01 PM   #26
  - Lowey withdrew her name from consideration...  liberalpragmatist   Dec-05-08 05:01 PM   #28
  - thanks, hadn't heard that. nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 05:02 PM   #29
  - she's not, obviously  paulk   Dec-05-08 05:05 PM   #30

  - 30; about half of U.S. Senators were governors or Reps before they took office. nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 05:23 PM   #51
  - She isn't. But that's not why she might be chosen. She's being chosen so as not to give any one...  MookieWilson   Dec-05-08 05:08 PM   #32
  - Right, a lot more goes into making the decision than "who's done it longer"  Lex   Dec-05-08 05:20 PM   #47
  - Right, because after all this NY deserves nothing more than a mere placeholder  Raineyb   Dec-05-08 06:18 PM   #62
     - They deserve a fair primary in which no one has the advantage of appointed incumbency. nt  MookieWilson   Dec-05-08 06:35 PM   #66
     - Why wouldn't Caroline run for a full term in 2 years? nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 06:55 PM   #77
     - It would be hard for the leaders of the party to make that argument  Raineyb   Dec-05-08 06:59 PM   #84
     - What makes you think she wouldn't take the job willing to work hard for NY?  CTyankee   Dec-05-08 07:29 PM   #97
        - the comparison is not to Bush's kids - it's to elected Democrats  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 07:31 PM   #99
        - I didn't say that. However the word is she doesn't want the job after the 2 years  Raineyb   Dec-05-08 07:40 PM   #102
           - She may just want to serve her country and her state as a public servant  CTyankee   Dec-06-08 08:11 AM   #122
              - Then I'd suggest she find another way other than being appointed to the Senate out of the blue.  Raineyb   Dec-06-08 10:06 AM   #127
                 - I am not totally unsympathetic to your view. In fact, I think it is the strongest argument  CTyankee   Dec-07-08 03:02 PM   #139
                    - The strongest argument against her appointment is  clear eye   Dec-09-08 01:08 PM   #154
  - I kind of don't get this either. Caroline is an accomplished person  saracat   Dec-05-08 05:10 PM   #35
  - Yes, it is puzzling  RFKin2008   Dec-06-08 03:14 AM   #117
  - Long-term as Congressperson does not always equal qualifications for Senator (see D. Davis)  frazzled   Dec-05-08 05:49 PM   #56
  - how about for the particular people I mentioned?  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 06:51 PM   #71
  - Probably more qualified than Kaufmann in DE.  pirhana   Dec-05-08 06:37 PM   #67
  - I think Kaufmann is a good pick for DE - he'll basically continue Biden's work  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 06:53 PM   #73
     - I'm just teasing. But I do find it interesting how all of the sudden  pirhana   Dec-05-08 07:20 PM   #94
  - She just IS, damn it! You gotta problem with it?  DailyGrind51   Dec-05-08 06:37 PM   #68
  - I guess I do!  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 06:59 PM   #83
     - "beautiful and famous" in America, that's all one needs for success!  DailyGrind51   Dec-06-08 08:38 AM   #123
  - She'd be great. She's incredibly bright.  Midlodemocrat   Dec-05-08 06:55 PM   #76
  - Are the other people I listed, and dozens of other elected Dems in NY, NOT bright? nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 06:56 PM   #80
     - Yes. Caroline's being bright instantly renders all of them dolts.  Midlodemocrat   Dec-06-08 06:05 AM   #120
  - Electability.  TexasObserver   Dec-05-08 07:28 PM   #96
  - When did NY turn into a red state? nt  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 07:40 PM   #103
  - Why bother to ask the question if your opinion is the only on that matters to you?  TexasObserver   Dec-05-08 07:53 PM   #108
     - Very few posters are addressing my question except to say she's famous and might raise more money.  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 07:58 PM   #113
     - Maybe you can explain what you meant by electability  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 08:00 PM   #114
  - We have plenty of electable Democrats who can fill that seat.  Raineyb   Dec-05-08 07:47 PM   #105
     - Because she's Caroline Kennedy and you're not.  TexasObserver   Dec-05-08 07:55 PM   #110
        - And it makes her no more electable than any of the people mentioned in the OP  Raineyb   Dec-05-08 07:57 PM   #112
  - Since I inspired this thread .......  Husb2Sparkly   Dec-05-08 07:53 PM   #107
  - Okay, so you want some specifics: how about the loaded handgun in Hinchey's luggage?  frazzled   Dec-05-08 10:08 PM   #115
  - That is a real strike against Hinchey. That and he's probably too far left  JoeIsOneOfUs   Dec-05-08 10:31 PM   #116
  - Paterson may choose Andrew Cuomo  Danmel   Dec-06-08 03:29 AM   #118
  - Protects the left? We left Dems have long memories  clear eye   Dec-09-08 10:11 AM   #151
  - k & R although I dislike your measure of qualification  hfojvt   Dec-06-08 04:05 AM   #119
  - I like the notion of "fresh eyes." Caroline is a well read, well educated woman  Vinca   Dec-06-08 06:19 AM   #121
  - Caroline Kennedy has no experience, no resume for a Senator.  robcon   Dec-06-08 09:05 AM   #124
  - Nita Lowey has declined. She has seniority in the House and wants to be exactly  OmmmSweetOmmm   Dec-06-08 02:35 PM   #131
  - Apparently she worked as a Senate intern while in college.  bottomtheweaver   Dec-06-08 06:02 PM   #137
