A well established, in demand make-up artist can make much more than that for a daily rate, especially when traveling or on location. Palin's make-up artist rate was around $1000 a day -- not unheard of at all -- the artist was with her seven days a week, probably working on her several times a day.

Yes, the money can be great, but, but you are being paid more for your ability to deal with the tremendous amount of bullshit that can go with the job than your technical skills. It is the reason I finally exited the business.
