Why Obama is keeping Gates on at Defense??
Advertisements [?]
He knows that the Bush-cons cannot wait to blame him for whatever goes wrong in Iraq. He still plans on getting the troops out of Iraq but as long as Gates is still in charge of Defense, Bush still has part ownership of whatever happens in that forsaken place.

Many or most Democrats will disagree with this decision. However, it is a very clever move to keep Gates there for about a year or until most of the troops are withdrawn. Now Gates and Bush cannot say that "it was in good shape when we left it..." Because they haven't left it yet... I give Obama credit for this decision. Politically, it was very smart.
