I was a member of the DAR--I had just started doing genealogical research, and a cousin had kindly given me her records with the request that I join the group. Since DAR genealogical data is pretty good (sources must be cited and copied), and Cousin had really helped a lot, I joined. And quit soon after when I realized how right wing the organization was.
