BTW - what is nice and tidy about the government's explanation?

The official explanation is actually quite damning - the government failed to protect the life of the president. Moreover, it failed to stop not a major conspiracy, but a lone nutcase of a gunman who the FBI was already keeping track of, who was hardly anonymous (having appeared on TV and even in the NY Times, fer Chriss sake!), and who was an avowed Marxist and pro-Cuban. In other words, the government BLEW IT by failing to account for a person who any decent security type would have locked down in a heartbeat.

But then, security back then wasn't what it is now. Were our present-day politicians as lax in their security as were the Kennedys, George Wallace and MLK, they'd be dropping like flies as well. Were security back then what it is now, history would have been quite different.

The OPPORTUNITY presented to Oswald to do the shooting was an opportunity born of the times and the situation on that day.

Does the explanation really need to be any crazier than that?
