90. As pessimistic as you are about this situation...
what do you propose as a solution?

I personally know for a fact that there people out there who oppose same-sex marriage who don't really care about civil unions. I don't know why, but a lot of them just have some kind of weird complex about the word 'marriage'. So I think you are painting people with too broad a brush; this is a complex issue in some ways, and not everyone feels the same about it.

I've been around long enough to recall when you couldn't even teach in public schools if you were gay, much less get married. I've seen a lot of progress in my life. I would be happy to enter into a civil union in my state if it meant taking a first step that would *someday*, down the road, lead to getting my full civil rights on the federal level.
